Painted Lady : KarPaiTwenMo 2 Art Marathon #11

Painted Lady by Karen Gadient, 2014

I attempted a few versions of this one, but it still didn’t quite come out the way I’d imagined. All the same, I’ve got an art marathon to complete, so here she goes. 🙂 Hope you’ve all had a good weekend!

Mircoe with Sunflowers

Mircoe with Sunflowers by Karen Gadient, 2014 -- with original

Mircoe with Sunflowers. Cat portrait for Patricia and her sweet kitty Mircoe. Van Gogh-ish influence, complete with a hat and sunflowers (Mircoe’s favorite flower―and Patricia’s too). I had a lot of fun with this portrait because Mircoe is so adorable! Shared with permission from Patricia.

I dream my painting and I paint my dream. ― Vincent van Gogh

Blues Cat

Blues Cat by Karen Gadient, 2014

Blues Cat. Cat in a cool mood.

I’ve been surrounded by cats since I shared a playpen with one and I couldn’t imagine my house without a cat or two. One of my favorite childhood poems:

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe, anybody’s lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don’t care! Cats sleep anywhere.
― Eleanor Farjeon

Dreams of Color

Dreams of Color by Karen Gadient, 2014

Dreams of Color. Created with Procreate for iPad and Corel Painter.

When I can’t sleep, I doodle on the iPad. And doodling, when you’re having a sleepless night, turns into a dreamlike activity.

After some rest, I brought the doodle onto the big screen and expanded upon it: creating this artwork. I guess if you have a box of crayons (digital or otherwise), insomnia can be as colorful as a dream.

Artists are just children who refuse to put down their crayons. — Al Hirschfeld

Companions for Clever Old Souls

Companion Karen by Karen Gadient, 2014

Just in time for our anniversary, here’s the companion ‘me’ to my darling husband’s Doctor (Who) portrait.

Although I don’t have regeneration as an excuse, I created a younger alternate self with slightly different features (hey, David got an upgrade and I wanted one too). I gave her my unevenly-cut hair, though; I’m always snipping the ends myself instead of going to the salon and I suspect I’d keep that quirk if I were busy with all that wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.
