This one began with a photo I’d taken during our visit to the International Rose Test Garden in Portland, Oregon last year. Such a wonderful place to visit!

Oregon Coast

Oregon Coast View by Karen Gadient, 2015

View from a spot far above Oceanside, Oregon. Despite the sunshine and warmth in Portland, it was a chilly and foggy day once we got to the coast. In fact, we were battered with sand on the beach; the wind was crazy at times.

Still, it was a lot of fun. David and I hiked up this spot, where one can get precariously close the edge and risk death for a snapshot. This was as close as I got, but David wandered out further (while listening to me yelp that I didn’t want him to fall), so maybe he’s got a better shot I can share sometime.

It’s so amazing to hug a tree and gaze out over a cliff to the ocean. 🙂

Portland Japanese Garden

Portland Japanese Garden - Photo by Karen Gadient, 2014

I’m reorganizing our photos and figured I’d share a few here on occasion. This one was taken in the Portland Japanese Garden in late springtime. Things look quite different in autumn and winter, so be sure to check out their site―or visit, if you live close enough! It’s a beautiful and relaxing place to spend an afternoon.

Shrine to Coffee and Friends

Shrine to Coffee and Friends - Pied Cow Portland : Karen Gadient, 2014

Another one of my cell phone photos. This is a fantastic shrine-like element within the Pied Cow Coffeehouse in Portland, Oregon. Right next to a table, so you can drink your brew and ponder the spirits likely sharing it with you.

We went there to kill some late-night time while awaiting our dear friend Sunnie, who was driving down from Seattle to see us. Although it was pretty darn dark when I took this picture, it came out clearly enough to share.

I’ve been to some wonderful coffeehouses in New York City and Los Angeles, but this place had really smooth coffee and a lovely funky vibe that encourages discussion and triggers writing ideas. Would totally go there again.

Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after. — Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Hawthorne Bridge, Portland

Hawthorne Bridge by David Gadient, 2014

David took this photo while we waited to board the Portland Spirit. Taking a relaxing cruise on the Willamette River is a great way to see the area.

Weird and Wonderful Portland

Portland PDX 2014 by Karen Gadient, 2014

We spent the last week in Portland, Oregon. Truly one of my favorite places. While there, we had the fortune to spend time with many good friends and explore some fun Oregonian locations.

David takes the best photos; I only snap cell phone shots. I’ll post some of his photos soon, once he’s organized them. For now, some of mine:
