Purple Flower

Purple Flower by Karen Gadient, 2015

Purple Flower. Photograph with traditional watercolor layers and digital mixed media.

My husband David takes some wonderful photos and we thought it would be fun to see what I could create with them using scanned traditional art media and digital painting and editing. This purple flower was one David found during our last trip to Desert Botanical Garden. No idea what kind of flower it is, but it was on a bush, not a cactus. I’ll experiment more with his photos and share here.

Hope you’re having a great week so far!

  1. I like the “reflection” the lines drawn around it make. Like its floating in water.

  2. Possibly a blue hibiscus. Was it back near the herb garden? Crazy I still remember where certain plants were! It would be cool to see what you would/could do with one of my images!

    • It was near the front, to the left, maybe a few rows back, near where there are a bunch of trees. Hibiscus–that sounds about right! I’d always be happy to have a little fun with one of your images; we could each share the results on our blogs. πŸ™‚

  3. always great to see exploration into new expressive ways…this one works beautifully Karen…

  4. Wow, it’s always nice to see a mature subject like florals being done in a very different way. Great collaboration between David and you.

  5. That’s a great idea, turning photography into art, it’s absolutely beautifully purple!! πŸ˜€ I like the way you and David share your creativity. I must try it myself. I took some flower pictures a few days ago, and then I found a website called PhotoSketcher, but I guess that would be probably paint cheating?! πŸ˜‰

  6. that is very lovely! stretching the painting boundaries and using wonderful shades of lilacs, lavenders… what a delight! cheers, Debi

  7. Spring is the season for purple flowers πŸ™‚
