Hummingbird

Hummingbird by Karen Gadient, 2016

Hummingbird. Acrylic and digital mixed media.

This morning, I saw #DrawABirdDay trending on Twitter. I thought it was cute. You know, birds and twittering and all that… so, I gathered a few unused acrylic scans and did some digital painting to make a hummingbird.

We have hummingbirds in our yard, thanks to the lovely blown glass feeder David’s parents gave us a few years ago. It’s mostly hummingbirds and doves around here. What kind of birds gather where you live?

  1. So far we have one pair of cardinals, pair of blue jays, numerous purple finches, a few woodpeckers, goldfinches, robins, chickadees and nut hatchers. Now if I could keep the squirrels off the bird feeders it would be great!

  2. This is my new favourite, Karen

  3. Lovely painting > Like a stained glass window πŸ™‚

  4. That’s a gorgeous humming bird…we have those and crows and eagles and crows and seagulls and crows and robins and sparrows and herons and crows…

  5. Lovely painting Karen.
    Seagulls and pigeons near me!

  6. Absolutely beautiful, dear Karen . Sending love and wishing you a happy weekend ahead. Aquileana πŸ˜‰

  7. Blown away and flown away over this one. I love hummingbirds…right now I have no birds…because I got tired of fighting the squirrels for bird food rights. However when I finally have my front yard landscaped with Florida native plants…some of which are hummingbird friendly…I intend to encourage hummingbird activity…I’m hopeful that some will come πŸ™‚

  8. This is absolutely gorgeous, so colourful, but delicate!β™₯

I don’t have any such pretty birds where I am, apart from the Robin and the Blue Tit. Although there are a lot more varieties of birds in the old cemetery near where I live. They tend to hide in the trees though, got more chance of hearing them than seeing them.

I have seen a few Blue Jays years ago where my parents used to live, it was near a large woodland so attracted a whole lot more interesting wildlife.

I love hummingbirds, it would be amazing to see some in that cemetery – like magic fairies! Have you ever seen this lovely video of one old man and his hummingbird? I think I may have shared it on Twitter, but a long time ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOeVhFV0zDc
