Dreams of Color

Dreams of Color by Karen Gadient, 2014

Dreams of Color. Created with Procreate for iPad and Corel Painter.

When I can’t sleep, I doodle on the iPad. And doodling, when you’re having a sleepless night, turns into a dreamlike activity.

After some rest, I brought the doodle onto the big screen and expanded upon it: creating this artwork. I guess if you have a box of crayons (digital or otherwise), insomnia can be as colorful as a dream.

Artists are just children who refuse to put down their crayons. β€” Al Hirschfeld

Like it very much and decided to learn digital art (without insomnia). πŸ˜‰

  2. Love it – reminds me of a 1970’s album cover

  3. It’s a very good doodle! Over the years of having sleepless nights I’ve found that sometimes some of my best ideas for writing or just some decisions on life can be made in the night hours. It certainly better than just lying there in the dark not sleeping!

I love the face coming out of this! Do you remember those Athena gift cards and posters in the 80’s that were really striking fantasy women’s faces? Almost sci fi but more of another world, and others were more fashion related. I had one in my bedroom, and even when I left home I didn’t really want to take it off the wall it was so nice. I’d like one now!! πŸ˜€

I don’t know if it’s my imagination, but the face in your art reminds me of Toyah Willcox, she was another one of those 80’s punk/pop lady’s. It might be because she’s on my mind, I booked some tickets today to see her show coming to the city where I live. I never got to see any of those 80’s stars, I just wasn’t really into concerts. I thought I’d get to see some of them before they all go into retirement! πŸ˜‰

Thanks. πŸ™‚ I was wondering what you’d think about it! It’s a bit album-cover-ish and made me think of the 80s too. Cool that you’re seeing shows; I saw a lot when I was younger but haven’t gone to one in a few years now!

  4. This is gorgeous, Karen! ❀

  7. Doodling is ABSOLUTELY a dreamlike activity. I’ve dedicated an entire blog to just doodling because I like the interesting state of mind in which it leaves me. Come by and check it out: http://www.brooklyndoodle.com

  8. This would have made a great 60’s poster. Peace.
