Cats in the House

Calico Cat Watercolor

I’ve been away from blogging for a little while, as we’ve been busy with the integration of a new adult cat to our household. Glad to say it’s gone smoothly!

I’d show you a picture of her, but she was very badly matted when we found her and now she’s got quite a ridiculous haircut. Punk lion-kitty. With the online world always hungry for silly cat photos, I figure it’s better for her dignity to allow the fur some time to grow back before we post snapshots.

She’s sweet lady calico and we’re glad to have her in our family.

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul. β€” Jean Cocteau

Love it. Love cats (let’s wait for her to grow her hair back to its original splendour) Nice quote from Cocteau too. He is mostly forgotten by now outside of France, though he was a great artist. What’s her name? Our own (inherited) cat is called Miao-Dze-Dong! πŸ™‚

Miao, hehe. Love that name. πŸ™‚ She’s going to have a thick, long calico coat once it grows in again. Her name is Sweetie (because she’s sweet, but also due to us being Doctor Who fans and Sweetie being something River Song called the Doctor).

Miao (Dze-Dong or Tse tung) is because, though she’s is a very pretty cat, she has an atrocious voice, squeaky and loud. We also thought of calling her Hinges (unoiled of course!)

Yes, Sweetie has a voice like that too. Hinges is a brilliant name. πŸ˜€

I sometimes wonder if Miao isn’t deaf. πŸ™‚ Sweetie might be? Is a calico a three coloured cat? Most are deaf I think. Does she different coloured eyes?

    • karengadient

Her eyes aren’t different and she appears to hear us call her name and react to household noises. I think she’s just screechy. πŸ™‚

  2. Aw, good luck with the new kitty. I love calicos, I had one who was just the dearest, sweetest cat.

Equinoxio21, that’s blue-eyed white cats that tend to be deaf. To my knowledge calicos are not prone to deafness. I know my little Charlotte could hear just fine πŸ˜‰

  3. Ooh! Congrats on the new kitty! Can’t wait to see her when she’s all pretty again. πŸ™‚

  4. A new addition to the household! That’s lovely to know she a has nice home now, must have taken a lot of care to get her into a good state of health. I saw a video a few weeks ago about a cat rescued from from a dire state and nurtured into a delightful fluff ball of white kittiness! πŸ˜€ It almost didn’t look like the same cat! Is the picture one of your cats? Can’t decide if it’s art or a photo = maybe a bit of both? Anyway, it’s very cute – cat’s little pink noses are always cute! πŸ™‚

She’s settling in nicely and purrs like mad. πŸ™‚ Nah, image is stock photography with a bit of watercolor painting over it and some filters, but I’ll share a photo of the actual kitty eventually!

  5. Sweetie looks beautiful. A lovely cat to cherish. I hope you have many fun years with her. πŸ™‚

  6. How lovely! Cats make any home better πŸ˜€ hope she continues to settle in well x
