Photoshop Tennis: Before and After

Photoshop Tennis - Before and After

Speaking of image editing, there was a game my friends and I used to play involving image manipulation. We called it Photoshop Tennis but the graphics program used didn’t matter—Photoshop, Gimp, Painter, Paintshop Pro, whatever. It also didn’t matter if the players had great design skills; the point of the game was to have fun! The game went like this:

Three to six people would take turns adding and changing a base stock photo. The original image was pretty plain and we voted on it from a selection of five images before the game began. Depending on our schedules, a game could take weeks. The final image was always amusing.

The image with this post was a game played in 2010. The top was the base photo we started with and the bottom was the finished result. Good times!

  1. Karen, this is a very cool game you played with your friends…such creativity.

  2. Ok…the coolness rating on this is not even on a scale!

What I find really interesting is not always what is put in…but what is taken out too, so that what is there initially in the background gets ‘rebuilt’ to look whole. (ie., the bottom of the flower pot tray, the tape dispenser, the left side wall)

Pretty much, any player could do anything to the image… only rule was that they couldn’t remove something another player had already done. We got really creative with some of the images.

  3. That’s a cool idea. I may steal it for my 8th grade Photoshop class!

Feel free. It’s a lot of fun. Oh, here’s an important rule: no player can remove something another player has already created (not cool when someone’s spent a lot of time working on something only to have it erased on the next turn). Please share how it goes, if you play!

  4. Some talented photoshop work going on with the pictures.

We did a lot of pasting in odd things (I’ve got another one that’s utterly ridiculous and maybe I should share it despite some of the copyright-issue elements). It’s funny what the right addition will bring to the picture!

  5. Wonderful idea, simply wonderful!

  6. Now that’s what I call visual brainstorming….creativity with pictures!
