My friend Katie tagged me in one of those game-like blog thingees. I don’t usually do that stuff, and she gave me permission not to. No pressure and all that. However, I figured I should honor her by doing something in response to her thinking of me. Because, hey—friends are awesome.
So, I chose the ‘random facts’ part and made it longer.
25 Random Facts About Myself
1. I dictate most of my writing.
2. And a lot of that goes into a micro digital recorder first.
3. I skim magazines backwards.
4. I worked for years as pet groomer.
5. I like fast cars. Shiny fast cars.
6. Yet, I drive a ten-year-old car with over 300,000 miles on it.
7. I collect nail polish. And kooky socks.
8. From my home office, I can hear peacocks calling.
9. I eat salad like people eat potato chips: straight out of the bag.
10. I love to build things out of LEGO bricks.
11. I’m a Gemini. And married to a Gemini. We’re great at parties.
12. I like spiders. And snakes.
13. I have tumbleweeds on the porch to keep away solicitors.
14. I haven’t eaten at McDonald’s or Burger King in more than a decade.
15. I’ve lost more than 60 pounds in the last decade.
16. I’ve worked in three Las Vegas casinos. Two of them have since imploded.
18. I would totally go on a vacation to the moon.
19. I have a fondness for Existentialism.
20. Someday, I want to own a sailboat.
21. I support psychedelic research.
22. I love ancient cultures and tribal societies.
23. Yet, I’m just as fascinated with artificial intelligence and future science.
24. I’ve never watched Downton Abbey or Mad Men.
25. I hoard notebooks and sketchbooks.
Am I tagging any of you? Nah, I don’t do that. But if you want to write up a ‘random facts’ list for your own blog: consider yourself tagged and go for it. We’ll all learn a bit more about each other. Cheers!

We have a lot of random things in common.
Do we? That’s (randomly) awesome.
Indeed.
Well, then! We must get to know each other better, sir.
We should. I think I’m going to do this random thing thing, too.
Sir? Not quite.
Oh crud. I’ll blame your pen name!
Apologies, m’dear! I owe you a coffee one day for that one.
No worries. Although it sounds like a fine excuse to get coffee with you.
“I have a fondness for Existentialism” – I love that
I suppose the real question is: does it have a fondness for me?
Ha!
They’re gems, of course! Glad to know you
Thanks! Glad to know you as well.
Thank you Karen!

Gemini!!! Woop woop! We share that in common =)
Do we? The world should fear! Hehe.
After your last post about strange lights circling over your house Karen, I was thrilled to see this next post and know you were still here on the planet creating more brilliant posts.
Hehe. Yes, they haven’t beamed me up… yet! Sadly, I haven’t seen anything weird (other than an abundance of tumbleweeds) lately.
Yahhhhh! Way to go on changing this up to make it meet your needs. I am a super proponent for altering things and going rogue haha!
It’s fun learning about everyone … thank you for doing this….and..
You can hear peacocks where you are at??? Really? What do they sound like? (I have heard they can be great as guard….errr…dogs.)
Also, way to go one the 60 lb drop….and the salad from a bag eating. (I recall myself just biting into a bell pepper at the market once because I was hungry. I think people thought I was weird lol.)
But …
No Downton?!?!?!? … *points and opens my mouth in a silent scream*
Our neighbor is a farmer (yep, we have farms in the desert, go figure) and he’s nearly got an ark of animals over there. Including some peacocks. The roosters and goats and cows are one thing, but the peacocks…
They sound like this. [video]
I think the weight loss is due to giving up cruddy food and eating things like bags of salad. Huge diet secret there, eh?
Downton. Yep, well… we just gave up cable and have Netflix. Downton is there, but we’ve been busy watching Red Dwarf. More my smeggin’ thing. Hey, it’s still British TV!
Holy crap…that is loud!
Isn’t it? Whoa. And the farmer has two very talkative peacocks.
I like your style… Witty, funny, sprinkled with a small dose of eccentricity.
Thanks!
I’d love to know what was the third casino you worked at, as I’ll be visiting there soon, and wanted to hang outside for a bit – you know – just to watch it come randomly tumbling down upon itself…
Well, the other two imploded with some help from an explosives team (Frontier and Westward Ho, if you were curious). The third was Santa Fe, which was bought by Station Casinos. Doubt it will be coming down any time soon, since it’s more of a locals place.
You are multidimensional and quirky. What a fun mix! How cheery you seem.
Heh, thank you. That could be the first time anyone’s called me cheery, so that made my morning! I try to smile, no matter what comes my way.
OK, it’s good you played the game. We now have a point of synergy. I too love ancient societies. One of my favorite WIP is about life in the far distant past (have yet to get any agent interested).
I almost didn’t, but now I’m glad I did. I’ve gotten to know other people better in the process. Good luck with your WIP. I say self-publish if you don’t get an agent bite; the world needs more historic (whether true or alternate) tales.
Did you know that I used to have tarantulas and a scorpion?
(I wanted to see if I could comment here since I can’t “like”.)
Did you? That’s awesome. I’d love to have a tarantula, but I’d fear the cats would get to it. Do scorpions make good pets?
Collect nail polish? You and I have this in common, it’s been a recent obsession of mine. Also eating salad out of the bag, I get some weird looks for that one. Congrats to you on your health successes! I’ll look to you for inspiration.
Thanks for the congrats! Yep… I have too much polish, really. Yet, I can’t keep myself from getting another shiny bottle when I see a color I like. Today’s color: something called “Star Vibe”. It’s silvery and speckle-y.
Oooh, that sounds gorgeous! Yes, I’m the same way. My collection is always growing.
Congratulations, Karen!
I have nominated your blog for the Versatile Blogger Award.

I read a newspaper backwards, but that’s more because our sports section is at the back. Vacations on the moon cannot come soon enough
Moon vacation would be perfect right about now!
I’m gutted we can’t do that. We landed on the moon before I was born and we don’t have hotels and a McDonalds there already. WHY NOT?
You dictate most writing – voice recognition? If so, which one and how good?
I use Dragon Dictate. Once you train it and make some adjustments, it’s pretty good. Much more amazing now than it was just years ago.
Hi Karen,Thanks for liking my A-Z writing challenge and for joining my blog. I’ve seen very strange flying objects near where I used to live in Scotland. I researched ufo’s and found the area to be a hot spot.
I know if I was an alien tourist, I’d check out Scotland. Beautiful land.
